WJSN, also known as Cosmic Girls, is an all-female group from South Korea formed by Starship Entertainment and Yuehua Entertainment in 2016.
The group consists of thirteen members – Exy, Seola, Xuan Yi, Bona, Soobin, Luda, Dawon, Eunseo, Cheng Xiao, Mei Qi, Yeoreum, Dayoung, and Yeonjung – divided into four different sub-units (Wonder Unit, Joy Unit, Sweet Unit, and Natural Unit).
WJSN officially debuted on February 25, 2016 with the release of their first extended play (EP), Would You Like?
2015 to 2016: Formation
On December 4, 2015, Starship Entertainment and Yuehua Entertainment jointly launched a 12-member girl group called WJSN (Cosmic Girls) comprised of Korean and Chinese members divided into different sub-units.
The agencies announced the first unit on December 10 – the Wonder Unit – formed by Cheng Xiao, Bona, and Dayoung. It was followed by the Joy Unit on December 17, composed of Xuan Yi, Eunseo, and Yeoreum.
Shortly after, both Wonder and Joy units released a Christmas cover of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. On December 24, Sweet Unit was introduced, with members Seola, Exy, and Soobin.
And finally, the Natural Unit including Mei Qi, Luda, and Dawon were announced on December 31.
WJSN officially debuted in South Korea on February 25, 2016, with the release of their mini-album Would You Like?, featuring the title tracks “Mo Mo Mo” and “Catch Me”.
The group held their debut stage in South Korea on Mnet’s M Countdown on the same day where they performed both songs.
On July 11, 2016, Starship Entertainment confirmed reports that Yoo Yeon Jung, who debuted in the project group I.O.I, will be joining WJSN as the group’s 13th member.
The following months, members Seola, Exy, Soobin, Eunseo, Cheng Xiao, Yeoreum, and Dayoung formed the unit “Y-Teen” with their labelmates, Monsta X.
Y-Teen is a project group that will be promoting commercial film (CF) models for KT’s phone fare service. They also planned to release EPs, music videos, and various entertainment content.
On August 17, WJSN digitally released the mini-album, The Secret, their first as a group of 13 members. The Secret includes a total of seven tracks, including both Korean and Chinese versions of the title track “Secret”.
The album debuted at number 7 and peaked at number 6 on the Gaon Album Chart, while the title track “Secret” peaked at number 49 on the Gaon Digital Chart.
2017 to present: From. WJSN, first concert, and Happy Moment
On January 4, 2017, WJSN (Cosmic Girls) released their third mini-album, From. WJSN, including the title track “I Wish”. The EP contains a total of six tracks, including a Chinese version of the title track. Three weeks after release, the album peaked at number 4 on the Gaon Album Chart, the group’s highest chart position since its debut.
On May 19 and 20, WJSN held their first solo concert in South Korea, called Would You Like – Happy Moment, at the Blue Square Samsung Card Hall.
WJSN released their first full-length album in South Korea, Happy Moment, on June 7, featuring a total of ten tracks including the lead single “Happy”. But for the first time, there was no Chinese version of the lead single included in the album. On the same day of its release, WJSN held a media showcase of the new album, which was also broadcast through Naver’s V Live.
Happy Moment peaked at number 3 on the Gaon Album Chart on the first week of release, and 9th for the whole month of June, selling almost 26,000 copies within the first month. It also topped Hanteo’s daily and real-time charts.
On February 27, 2018, WJSN (Cosmic Girls) released their fourth mini-album, Dream Your Dream, with the lead single “Dreams Come True”.
On the same day of its release, the group held a comeback showcase at the Yes24 Live Hall, which was also simultaneously broadcast through Naver’s V LIVE.
Dream Your Dream features a total of six tracks, including a Chinese version of the title track. It peaked at number 2 on the weekly Gaon Album Chart, and at number 10 on the monthly edition.
In April, two of the group’s Chinese members (Mei Qi and Xuan Yi) participated in the Chinese version of Produce 101.
Mei Qi finished in 1st place and Xuan Yi finished 2nd, making them both members of the project group Rocket Girls.
On May 2, two other WJSN (Cosmic Girls) members formed a project group, this time with members of Fantagio Music’s Weki Meki.
The group is called WJMK (short for Wuju Meki) and is composed of WJSN’s Seola and Luda, and Weki Meki’s Yoojung and Doyeon. They released their digital single “Strong” on June 1.
EXY was a Starship Entertainment trainee for 8 years. She started as a vocalist, but later changed to a rap trainee. She composes her own rap and has contributed to WJSN songs, “WJ Please?” and “Dream Your Dream.” She’s appeared in shows like King of Masked Singer, I Have Something to Say Today, and the web-drama The Flatterer.
Some fun facts about her: She’s a Scorpio and she can play the triangle and tambourine.
Seola was a Starship Entertainment trainee for 10 years and is considered the vitamin of WJSN. She’s collaborated with many other artists like Monsta X’s Kihyun on “Love Virus” and have appeared in MVs like Boyfriend “Janus”. You’ll see her acting chops in web-drama, Good Morning Double-Decker Bus.
Some fun facts about her: She’s a Capricorn and she has aquaphobia.
Xuan Yi was born in Hainan, China and is also a part of the Chinese girl group, Rocket Girls. She’s currently on hiatus for her work in China, and she also recently had her solo debut last September 2020. She’s the shopaholic of the group and gets the other members to kiss, beg, or aegyo for gifts from China. The same thing happens when she asks the others for gifts from Korea.
Some fun facts about her: She’s an Aquarius, can play the piano, and she won the Fresh Asia Music 2018 for Most Popular Female Singer.
Bona was a Starship Entertainment trainee for 7 years, 6 of those at Cube and 1 year at Starship. She’s appeared in The Best Hit, Girl’s Generation 1979, and Your House Helper. Bona is also good friends with Blackpink’s Jisoo and the BTOB members.
Some fun facts about her: She’s a Leo and her nickname in the group is Bo-Bunny.
Soobin was a Starship Entertainment trainee for 7 years before becoming a part of Cosmic Girls. She’s also part of YTeen, the Starship Unit with Monsta X. She’s considered the happy virus of the group and nicknamed Soobly, meaning “Lovely.”
Some fun facts about her: She’s a multi-talented Virgo who knows how to play the piano, violin, and flute. She can also do an excellent impression of a Pterodactyl.
You can catch Luda in the shows, “Dunia: Into a New World” and variety show “Tutor.” She’s debuted her single called DreamWorld and is part of WJMK. The group is a collaboration between WJSN and Weki Meki. Her nickname in the group is Lu-dak, meaning “Chicken”, because of her accurate impression of a chicken.
Some fun facts about her: She’s a Pisces, has mismatched ears, and used to be a girl’s scout.
Dawon may be the clumsiest member of the group, but she’s also the one who takes care of everybody else and will clean up after them. She’s also known for her fit body. Her routine as seen on NCT Night Night is a swim in the morning, physical conditioning at noon, and pilates at night. You can also watch her on “Spirit Girl,” the singing show.
Some fun facts about her: She’s a Gemini and knows how to play the piano and guitar.
Eunseo is one of the vitamins of the group and has the nickname, “Sunlight Girl.” She’s also the “dad” of the dorm and is one of the best cooks in the group. She’s friends with lots of other idols like BTS Jungkook (who she was classmates with) and SinB from GFriend. Aside from that, she’s also part of YTeen, the Starship Unit with Monsta X. She’s a part of Real Men 300 and is the only female cast who can do a full set of push ups!

Position: Main Dancer, Vocalist, Visual, Face of the Group
Cheng Xiao is one of the Chinese members of the group and was a former JYP trainee. She was only 16 when she left to become a trainee and she’s been learning Chinese dance for 10 years now. She’s flexible and quite the gymnast, she can do a flip without even using her hands! She’s currently on hiatus from the group as she’s doing promotions in China.
Some fun facts about her: She’s a Cancer and won gold on Rythmic Gynamstics on ISAC.
Mei Qi is part of the Performance team and is in charge of thinking of sexy concepts for the group. Aside from Cosmic Girls, she’s also a part of the Chinese girl group, Rocket Girls with Xuan Yi. You can also watch her in a couple of Chinese movies such as “Marna” and “Autumn in my Heart.” She’s on hiatus for promotions in China.
Some fun facts about her: She’s a Libra, is an only child, and was a contestant of Produce 101 China.
Stage Name: Yeoreum
Birth Name: Lee Jin Suk (이진석) but changed it later on to Lee Yeo Reum (이여름)
Yeorum is the number one person for aegyo and cuteness in the group. She’s quiet at first, but once you talk to her, the aegyo comes out. Her other interests include scuba diving (she’s a certified scuba diver!) and food (she’s a real foodie!). Yeorum is friends with Twice’s Chaeyoung and is part of the sub-unit, Joy.
Some fun facts about her: She’s a Capricorn and is said to talk in her sleep. She can also play the piano, pipe, and janggu.

Their official fan club name is Ujung. Ujung means friendship in Korean. The name has been described by the group as an abbreviated form of the word space station.
