Born Kim Chungha, most popularly known by the mononym Chungha, is a singer who first debuted as part of the project girl group I.O.I from the Mnet survival program Produce 101. She finished fourth in the show and has since debuted as a solo artist.

2016 to 2017: Career beginnings on Produce 101

Chungha represented M&H Entertainment on the reality group survival show Produce 101 that aired on Mnet. She finished in fourth place and went on to debut with project group I.O.I on May 4 with the release of the mini-album Chrysalis.

On June 10, YMC Entertainment announced that Chungha is one of the seven I.O.I members who will form a unit group to promote their second single, “Whatta Man”. It was revealed that three teams were contacted to work on the choreography for the single, but it was Chungha’s that was eventually chosen by the management.

The single was a commercial success, peaking at number 2 on the Gaon Digital Chart and Gaon Album Chart for its digital (downloads and streaming) and physical sales, respectively.

On June 30, Chungha had a cameo appearance on the television drama Entourage along with fellow I.O.I members Nayoung. On July 24, she was also revealed to be a new cast member on dance survival show, Hit The Stage. On August 17, Chungha’s upcoming collaboration with groupmates Choi Yoojung, Jeon Somi, and DIA’s Ki Hui-hyeon was announced. The four of them released the digital single “Flower, Wind, and You” which was produced by Boi B.

On December 21, it was confirmed by M&H Entertainment that Chungha is set to debut as a solo artist in the beginning of 2017, following the conclusion of I.O.I’s promotions.

Two days later, she collaborated with Heo Jung-eun and HALO’s Ooon for the holiday carol, “Snow in this Year” which was featured on the television drama, My Fair Lady.

2017: Solo debut

Chungha was selected as a host for EBS’ Ah! Sunday – A Running Miracle in the beginning of 2017. In the show, she was tasked to teach the public how to improve their physical fitness through jogging and the help of a team of challengers under training under her wing.

On April 21, she released her pre-debut single, “Week,” on the official YouTube account of M&H Entertainment. Her debut EP, Hands on Me, was released on June 7 along with the lead track “Why Don’t You Know”.

Chungha subsequently featured in Samuel Kim’s solo debut album, Sixteen, with the track “With U,” as well as Babylon’s single, “La La La”.

Starting September 3, she took over the DJ position for EBS’s radio program, Listen, and on September 19, it was announced that she would be an MC for FashionN’s Please Take Care if My Vanity with Super Junior’s Leeteuk and Han Chaeyoung.

On November 22, the first episode of Chungha’s own reality show, “Chungha’s Free Month,” was released on YouTube and NaverTV.

2018: Rising popularity

On January 17, Chungha released her second extended play, Offset, featuring a total of five tracks including the title song “Roller Coaster”.

On June 26, her label confirmed that Chungha is set to have a comeback on July 18 with the release of her third mini-album Blooming Blue and the lead single “Love U”.

On August 8, the collaboration between Chungha, (G)I-dle’s Soyeon, GFriend’s SinB, and Red Velvet’s Seulgi was announced. The quartet released the single “Wow Thing” for SM Entertainment’s SM Station X 0 on September 28. By the end of the year, she also worked with Super Junior’s Yesung on the song “Whatcha Doin’”.

Aside from her continuous promotions and television projects, Chungha was also appointed as the ambassador for the Seoul International Architecture Film Festival in October 2018.

2019 to present: Release of Gotta Go

On January 2, Chungha released her single album, Gotta Go, for which she won her first ever music program trophy on MBC’s Show Champion. In February, she featured in VIXX’s Ravi’s new single, “Live”.
