2015: Formation and official debut

MBK Entertainment first announced its plans to debut a new girl group in February 2015. The company had originally decided to have possible candidates for the new group to compete on a reality survival program.

On February 10, Kim Dani was confirmed to be joining the project, while the agency announced the program’s name, “T-ara’s Little Sister Girl Group”.

In June of the same year, MBK Entertainment announced the cancellation of the survival program and decided to select the members internally. The three members – Yebin, Eunice, and Jenny – were revealed and MBK Entertainment set the group’s official debut for August under the name “DIA”.

Shortly before DIA’s debut, however, the company revealed the final line-up of six members composed of Eunice, Huihyeon, Jenny, Yebin, Eunjin, and Chaeyeon. Seunghee was added to the group a little later.

On September 14, 2015, DIA released their eponymous debut album, Do It Amazing, which features a total of 11 tracks, including the title track “Somehow”. The album peaked at number 11 on the Gaon Albums Chart, a considerably high ranking for a rookie girl group.

Following the digital and physical release of Do It Amazing, the group released three music videos for the songs “Somehow,” “I Wanna Listen To Music,” and “Lean On Me,” all of which were filmed in Hong Kong and Macau.

2016: Sub-units, new member Eunchae and Seunghee’s departure

In March 2016, DIA introduced their newest members – Eunchae. But the following month, they announced the departure of member Seunghee.

On June 2014, the group released their first mini album, Happy Ending, along with the music video for the title track “On The Road”.

In September of the same year, the group released Spell, a Harry Potter-themed album featuring the lead single “Mr. Potter”. Shortly after, the group was divided into two separate sub-units – BinChaenHyunSeuS and L.U.B – and released song’s separately.

2017: Reality show and more releases

In 2017, DIA ventured into television with the broadcast of their very own reality show on April 9 through Onstyle. The show began airing two days after the group announced the entry of two new members – Jueun and Somyi.

On April 6, they released their pre-release single, “You Are My Flower,” featuring trot singers Kim Yeon Ja and Hong Jin-young. And on April 19, their second studio album, YOLO, was released.

YOLO features a total of 14 tracks, including the lead single “Will You Go Out With Me?,” as well as tracks featuring rapper DinDin and former I.O.I member Kim Chung-ha.

On August 22, DIA released their third mini album, love Generation, featuring a total of 12 tracks, including the lead single “I Can’t Stop”. And on October 12, Love Generation was re-released as a repackaged version, titled Present, with four additional songs.

2018: Eunjin’s departure, first music show win

On May 7, Eunjin announced her departure from the group due to health problems.

On June 9, it was reported that DIA is preparing for a comeback scheduled for July 5. The group was initially supposed to come back in April with a song produced by Shinsadong Tiger.

However, on the day of the track’s supposed release, MBK Entertainment released an official statement regarding the postponement of DIA’s comeback to July 18.

Come July 18, no DIA comeback was made and their agency claimed that it was to ensure high-quality material for the group’s return.

The group finally released their fourth album, Summer Ade, on August 9 with the title track “WooWoo”. And on August 14, the girls won their very first music show trophy for the song on SBS MTV’s The Show.
