ITZY stormed into K-pop in 2019 with Dalla Dalla, a defiant anthem about embracing individuality. As JYP Entertainment’s first girl group after TWICE, expectations soared.

Formation and Debut

JYP Entertainment formed ITZY through rigorous training and auditions. Chaeryeong (main dancer) gained attention early on K-pop Star 3 and Sixteen, while Ryujin (lead rapper) was scouted at a BTS concert. Yeji (leader) joined after acing her 2016 audition, Lia (main vocalist) from Canada, and Yuna (visual) rounded out the lineup.

Their February 2019 debut with It’z Different broke records. Dalla Dalla became the fastest K-pop debut MV to hit 100 million views (at the time). The song’s message of self-love (“I’m different from you, baby”) resonated widely, topping charts for weeks.

Rise to Fame

ITZY’s early comebacks solidified their dominance. ICY (2019) and Wannabe (2020) dominated Korean charts, with the latter’s “shoulder dance” going viral. By 2021, they became the youngest girl group to perform at Coachella’s virtual stage.

Despite polarizing reactions to later tracks like Sneakers (2022), their core fanbase remained strong. CAKE (2023) marked a return to their signature sound, selling over 300,000 copies on its first day.
